The world can thank Elizabeth Marston for planting the seed of an idea into the mind of her husband and fellow psychologist, William Moulton Marston, of a female superhero named Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's ancient Greece Amazonian origins began when she was sculpted by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, from clay. She was completely independent of men. Marsten began creating WW's story in 1941, and her character went through several transitions. Her popularity with readers, particularly girls and women who considered her a role model, resulted in her character going from a secretary for the Justice Society (later Justice League) to a superhero with powers on a par with Superman and Batman. Indeed, the stories pertaining to that triumvirate of superheroes are the only ones to be published consistently since her formation during the Golden Age of Comics. Creator Marsten once said, 'Frankly, Wonder Woman is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who, I believe, should rule the world.' Wonder Woman debuted in All Star Comics #8 and was so popular that she earned a self-titled comic in Sensation Comics #1.
