A Bert Stern Portrait of Marilyn Monroe from 'The Last Sitting' 1962 (but printed later). Cibachrome color print photograph, 24 x 20 inches, 'Marilyn Monroe with Beads,' limited edition, #27 of 250, signed ('Bert Stern') at lower right corner, abrasions at upper left and center left, mounting remnants to verso of upper margin. In the months before she died in 1962, Marilyn Monroe was navigating a slew of bad press based on Twentieth Century-Fox Studios firing her from the film, Something's Got to Give. In an effort to rebuild her image, she began a publicity campaign which would get her back in the public eye in a positive manner. She conducted an interview for 'Life' magazine and also arranged portrait sessions with several photographers including Bert Stern, George Barris, and Allan Grant. The Allan Grant session was, in actuality, Monroe's last sitting, but Stern's portfolio of photos of Monroe have taken on the label in part because of Stern's marketing abilities and in part because the photos are particularly unique, different, and controversial. 20 x 24 in.
