A Marlene Dietrich Contract to Appear in The Lady is Willing Typed Carbon Signed ('Marlene Dietrich'), 17 pp, folio, [Los Angeles], July 9, 1941, stapled at upper margin and housed in blue wrappers, corners creased, light thumbing and wear. 9 keybook stills, 8 x 10 in. gelatin silver prints with three holes punched at left margin. WITH: 'Advertising-Publicity-Exploitation Campaign' folio album with printed paper covers containing newspaper and periodical clippings from the press campaign for The Lady is Willing, including stories about Dietrich and 'Baby Corey,' March 1941. Charles Feldman's first venture into producing paired him with the formidable Marlene Dietrich, not a bad way to start. Fortunately, as her agent, he was already familiar with the actress and had formulated several successful deals for her (as well as many of Hollywood's biggest stars). The Lady is Willing is a comedy starring Dietrich with Fred MacMurray and directed by Mitchell Leisen. Originally titled, Miss Madden is Willing, the contract mentions Leisen's directing duties as well as Dietrich's arrangement to forego a salary in favor of a percentage of the profits. Known more for her smoldering femme fatale roles, Dietrich expanded her repertoire for this comedy in which she tries to adopt a baby with the help of MacMurray. Largest: 10 x 15 in.
