One wonders if all those involved, from actors to director to photographers, could have possibly predicted the historical significance of the event as one of the greatest publicity stunts in Hollywood history and the emergence of Monroe's iconic status. It was a watershed moment for Monroe career-wise, but personally it was the end of her marriage, as husband Joe DiMaggio stood nearby watching in disgust.
