Armorial Porcelain Octagonal Soup Plate with the Arms of Pope, Jingdezhen, China, c. 1765. Octagonal rim with gilded spearhead border surrounding varied floral sprays painted in famille rose enamels, outside a chain border surrounding the top of a deep cavetto, the well containing a symmetrical shield bearing the arms of POPE of Hendall, Sussex, Or two chevrons gules, on a canton of the second a mullet of the first, a fleur-de-lis for difference, below the crest, A tiger passant or, tufted, maned, collared and lined sable, surrounded by additional famille rose floral sprays, diam. 9, ht. 1 1/2 in.
