The rim of cup and saucer edged with gilt rayonée border above floral swags painted in famille rose enamels, the well and frontispiece depicting heraldic achievement of DALYELL, with two lions supporting a shield bearing the arms, Or, a bend chequy sable and argent between three buckles; quartering Sable a naked man proper, a canton argent charged with a sword and pistol saltirewise gules, below the crest, A hand holding a scimitar proper and banner inscribed 'I dare', the banner below inscribed 'For right and reason' bisected by the badge of a baronet of Nova Scotia, inscribed with the motto, 'Fax mentis honestae gloria' (Glory is the light of a noble mind) in gold, (saucer) diam. 5, ht. 1 1/8 in.
