Silverplate Prize Speaking Trumpet, presented to Engine Co. 8 by Lynn Fire Department, Lynn, Massachusetts, 16 October 1858. The molded bell and wide mouthpiece decorated with repousse oakleaf, geometric, and foliate patterns, soldered with applied bead borders to a two-part tube, both sections impressed with rococo reserves, the one above bell engraved, 'Lynn Fire Department / Prize Trumpet / Oct. 16th 1858', and that below the mouthpiece inscribed, 'Won by / Engine Co. / No. 8. / Lynn / by Playing / 15,000 Gallons. / Time. / 5 minutes, 12 sec'd. / October 16th 1858', aligned opposite the seam, the ends of which are concealed under two soldered animal mask castings retaining strap rings in their mouths, diam. 7 5/8, ht. 18 3/8 in.
