Fine Federal Mahogany Tall Case Clock, signed and labeled Aaron Willard, Jr. (1783-1864), Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1815. The round-arched hood surmounted by three reeded plinths bracketed by scrolled fretwork, above a deep scotia-molded cornice applied to front and returns of glazed case containing dial, which features sun and moon phase dial painted with sailing ship and castle ruin vignettes, and spandrels painted and gilded with quarter-fans and beaded feathers, inscribed 'Aaron Willard Jun\r / Boston.' inside chapter ring, raised on ogee-molded base supporting two partially reeded colonettes mounted in Doric brasses, resting on the scotia-molded cornice of a narrow waist section, two brass-mounted three-quarter engaged reeded columns set into front corners to frame a solid mahogany bead-molded panel door, the interior face retaining printed paper label of Aaron Willard, Jr., with 'Directions for Setting Up the Clock', over a rectangular base with double-bead molding to front and above the scalloped apron continuing to French bracket feet, the back of case enclosed with conforming pine board, includes winding and door keys, including finial, 55cm wide, 25cm deep, 256cm high (22 5/8in wide, 10 1/4in deep, 101in high).
