The notched octagonal plate having finely potted splayed rim painted in colored enamels with various sprigs of lotus, chrysanthemums, and plum blossoms, outside a gilt spearhead border encircling the deep cavetto, the well centering an oval shield bearing the arms of LINDSAY, Gules a fess chequy azure and argent between in chief three mullets and in base a mascle of the third [or], mantled and festooned with floral garlands below the crest, An ostrich argent holding in its beak a key, and a pink banner inscribed, '[P]atientia vincit' (Patience conquers) in black, diam. 8 3/4, ht. 1 1/2 in.
