The splayed rim and shallow cavetto edged with trellis-patterned band and spearhead border in underglaze cobalt, surrounding well centering the heraldic achievement of HOPE of Craighall, Scotland, comprising a shield with the arms, Azure a chevron or, between three bezants, below a crest, A broken globe, surmounted by a rainbow with clouds at each end, and banner inscribed 'At spes infracta' (Yet my hope is unbroken), supported by two female allegorical figures of Hope leaning on anchors and standing on a plinth with acanthus scrolls flanking the badge of a baronet, diam. 9 5/8, ht. 7/8 in.
