Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: Kassia Rico is interested in how the fusion of memory intersects with historical traditions, cultural narratives, and natural ephemera. Figurative painting allows her to tangibly employ spatial and color relationship systems to build a dynamic foundation for her recurring subjects to coexist. She considers the interplay between the physical and metaphysical aspects of life by creating portals in her dreamlike work to places real and imagined. Drawing from her experience as a LatinX and Asian American woman, her artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of dual identities through the themes of connection, community, and tradition.
