MEGAN REED (20th/21st Century) Untitled (Kelly Green), 2022 signed, titled and dated (on the reverse) styrofoam, plywood, hydrocal, aqua resin, acrylic and Spar Urethane 12 x 12 x 2 3/4 in. 30.5 x 30.5 x 7 cm. Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: Megan Reed is an artist based in Los Angeles whose work explores the concept of bricolage—the use of everyday materials as a form of creating elevated, new mythologies from the old. Interested in the social possibilities of color theory, stone circles, and theater, Reed's playful and cyclical approach to collage, painting, sculpture, and performance continues an art historical narrative that pushes the boundaries of painting and sculpture, and the expressive power of color as a language, in line with, among others, Oskar Schlemmer's Triadisches Ballets, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Dubuffet, and Franz West's collaged metal, candy-colored sculptural works. Reed's work is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing from her MFA in Painting from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, MA in Dramatic Literature from Southern Illinois University and a BFA in Drama from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She has presented solo and two-person shows at Halsey McKay Gallery, East Hampton, NY, The Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood, CA, Quality Gallery, Oakland, CA, Unit 24 Gallery, London, UK, Johansson Projects, Oakland, CA; multi-media performances at Land and Sea, Oakland, CA, and Hausq, Tucson, AZ; as well as in group shows at: MASSIMODECARLO, Milan, The Pit, Los Angeles, Shrine, Los Angeles, Harper's, Los Angeles, Guerrero Gallery, The San Francisco Arts Commission, Victori + Mo Gallery and most recently, with Barnett Newman, Mary Weatherford and and others in Color Fields at the Long Beach Museum of Art in Long Beach, CA. She has been an artist in residence at MASS MoCA, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the Vermont Studio Center. Her work has been profiled in La Repubblica, Vogue, the San Francisco Chronicle, KQED, and New American Paintings. Her work is in the permanent collections of Meta and The Bunker Artspace in West Palm Beach, Florida.
