An interesting Wedgwood colour sample plate, dated 1914 Painted all around the rim with blocks of twenty-five assorted colour swatches with corresponding samples applied by brush to the cavetto, mostly in shades of purple, blue, green, orange and brown, together with individual swatches in yellow, black and pink, each with a reference number in black enamel, inscribed 'May 29th - 14' in black to the reverse, 26cm diam, printed Portland Vase mark Footnotes: Plates such as this were used to test the colour and suitability of different overglaze enamel colours for the kiln.
