Lenbach' (on a fragmentary handwritten label affixed to the reverse) oil on board 71.0 x 93.0 cm (27 15/16 x 36 5/8 in). framed 82.5 x 103.5 x 3.0 cm (32 1/2 x 40 3/4 x 1 3/16 in). Footnotes: Provenance The collection of Ernst Hoffman, New York. A private New York collection (acquired from the previous, 2004). N.B. The inscription on the reverse identifies the former owner of this painting as Marion Lenbach Löhlein (1892-1947), Franz von Lenbach's daughter from his first marriage to Magdalena née Countess Moltke and one of his favorite models. In 1919 Marion married her second husband, Vice Admiral Heinrich Löhlein. When comparing Lenbach paintings where Marion is identified as the sitter, the resemblance to the blonde child on the right is notable.
