Lauder-Nielson Embroidery Sampler, America, early 20th century. Coarse plain-woven linen canvas worked in various thicknesses of dyed wool, cotton, and linen thread, inscribed with two rows of letters and numbers followed by inscriptions 'J. Lauder / J. Neilson / C. Lauder' and 'Mrs C', above an off-center framed reserve inscribed with biblical verse, the bottom half depicting a brick house on a lawn filled with white geese, a peacock, cat, and deer, the interstices densely patterned with lone bird, potted flower, fruit bowl, crown, and tree motifs, in glazed mahogany-veneered frame, sight, 16 5/8 x 15 in.
