'The Ikettes' of Ike and Tina Turner Set of 2 Stage Worn Minidresses. 1960s-2000s. A set of 2 Ikettes performance worn, slip dresses including 1-black nylon, pullover minidress with crystal-studded spaghetti straps and hem and retaining the internal bias label handwritten, 'Stoney' and 1-gold nylon minidress with gold bullion threaded and integrally sequined bib collar and bust, and zipper back closure. The Ikettes began their careers as 'The Artettes', a backing group for singer Art Lassiter and later became billed as 'The Ikettes' in 1960 when they began to record with and accompany the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. As the 60s progressed, the Ikettes became famous for their sexy minidresses, long silken hair, and expert mirroring of superstar Tina Turner's frenetic choreography. The Ikettes would continue beyond the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, record their own solo albums, and support Ike Turner in many configurations and personnel changes.
