GARNET AND DIAMOND SCENT BOTTLE, LATE 19TH CENTURY Red garnet cabochon Rose-cut diamonds Glass body Maker's mark JC for Jules Cauvain, French assay marks Length 6.4 x 1.2cm Weight approx. 17.0g Footnotes: OVERALL CONDITION Light surface wear to unhallmarked yellow metal (testing as 14ct gold) with some minor spots of discolouration visible under closer inspection. Stamped with French assay marks (eagles head) and maker's mark (JC flanking a 'coupe en verre' within a horizontal lozenge). Rose-cut diamond-set push mechanism opens and closes securely. Glass body with some light scratches visible upon close inspection, with one small chip where it meets the gold mount. DIAMONDS The rose-cut diamonds displaying a soft lustre. GARNET The red garnet cabochon measuring very approx. 9.2 x 9.2 (depth not possible due to setting) displaying a dark red hue.
