decorated in Augsburg, in the Aufenwerth workshop, probably by Anna Elizabeth Wald or her sister Sabina Aufenwerth, with two large panels of pairs of Chinoiserie figures at various pursuits, within elaborate gilt cartouches enriched with puce and iron-red scrollwork, the body with two large trailing branches of flowers, gilt scrollwork borders at the rims

Overall in good decorative order, in further detail:
There is some wear to the gilding, particularly to the upper rim (not seen when the cover is in place) and to part of the gilt scroll border below the upper rim, and to a lesser extent on the spout, the handle and around the footrim. The finial of the handle has been broken off at the join with the domed cover and repaired, with a small amount of filing and traces of regilding. There is a very small, flat chip to the gilt rim of the cover.
Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
