Jikara and Gachalan
1999
A high dignitary of his Aboriginal clan, Terry is responsible for a territory around the Barlparnarra lake where numerous sacred sites can be found, If Barlparnarra is linked to the myth of the Two Sisters, numerous paths of the Dream associated to other mythical ancestors converged towards this ceremonial site.
This painting relates the association between one of the Two Sisters - Muturlu - and a tree - the Jikara - behind which she appears to Barlparnarra. The jikras are were widespread in this region of the swamp and the largest amongst them mark the emplacement with sacred spaces.
On the right Gachalan is represented, the water goanna (varan) whose history is intimately linked to that of the Two Sisters, The mythical paths that he walked through created a link between the members of different clans.
