Johann Baptist Lampi d. Ä. wurde von Katharina der Grossen beauftragt, Potemkin zu malen. Kurz vor Potemkins Tod fertigte er eine -unvollendete- Portraitskizze an, welche die Grundlage für das Portrait nach dem Tod des Fürsten war. Von dem hier gezeigten Sujet hat der russische Hofkupferstecher James Walker (1748-1808) ein Schabblatt angefertigt. // Provenienz: Süddeutsche Sammlung

Empress Catherine the Great asked Johann Baptist Lampi the Elder to paint a portrait of
Potemkin. Shortly before Poetmkin`s death he made an unfinshed sketch, which was the basis
