A FRENCH M1887 ARTILLERY OR GRENADIERS N.C.O.’S SHORT SWORD IN SCABBARD, WITH FOLDING GUARD.
Origin: France, after 1887.
French Model 1887 Line Officer's short sword (Epee)with artillery/grenadiers badge on the outer guard clamshell and moving back clamshell.
Blade: steel straight double edged, long ricasso, double narrow fuller in central section, without maker marks.
White, non ferrous metal cast (aluminum) hilt. Clamshell guard with the inner clamshell moveable. On the front clamshell attached brass "grenade" applique. Grip with brass or bronze wire.
Steel scabbard without carrying rings. Unmarked.
Overall length in scabbard – 107,5 cm; overall length out of scabbard - 101 cm; blade length – 85 cm.
