A GILT BRONZE EMPIRE CLOCK, AMOR AND PSYCHE, ZODIAC, FRANCE 1810-1820

A rare ormolu empire clock made entirely of fire-gilt bronze. Round movement case on top, on volutes shaped support, middle part with fine chiseled mythological scene depicting Amor embracing Psyche next to the Greek column with vase, idyllic landscape behind. Supported on four rectangular legs.
Gilt bronze dial, twelve enamel plaques with black Roman ciphers, between them Zodiac signs, central part with fine chiseled scene of Amor and Psyche in front of Aphrodite. Black steel hands. Movement with silk suspension, strikes full- and half hours on a bell, 8 days duration, unsigned. Comes with the original pendulum and gilt iron winding key.
