AN AUSTRIAN EMPIRE / BIEDERMEIER MANTEL CLOCK, MAHOGANY VENEERED WITH GILT BRONZE MOUNTS. AUSTRIA, EARLY 19TH CENTURY.
Origin: Austria, Vienna (?), ca. 1820-1830.
A good early 19th century Austrian empire clock, probably from Viennese region. Of architectural shape, hexagonal movement case supported on two ebonized columns with gilt and chiseled bronze mounts, above the movement an arch connecting columns with finely chiseled bronze mask on alabaster ground, in oval wooden frame (same repeated on the base), supported on six rectangular wooden legs (one missing).
Austrian movement with silk suspension, striking full- and half-hours, 8 days duration. White porcelain dial with black Arabic ciphers (damages to the dial). Blued steel hands. Comes with pendulum and winding key.
