A FRENCH CUIRASSIER SWORD AN-XI (XIII). FRANCE, KLINGENTHAL, 1832. BROADSWORD, SABER.
"The cuirassiers weapon is the queen of movements and its usefulness is before , during and after
the battle" Napoléon Bonaparte
Origin: France, 1832.
Straight double fullered blade and a flat-edged back edge, point in line. Engraved inscription on the spine: M[anufactu]re R[oy]ale de Klingenthal, Avril 1832 s.a. Inspector’s stamp on the ricasso – shield with (probably) B under the star.
Closed brass half-basket hilt, four branches from yelman to the pommel, short backstrap, wooden grip covered with brown leather, fixed with twisted brass wire. Stamps: 598 / 2 in rectangle, B under the crown in shield (for Louis Balaran, director of manufactory). On the lower part of the yelman’s shield: 102.
Scabbard missing.
Total length – 95,8 cm; length of the blade – 83,4 cm; width – 37 mm; thickness – 7 mm.
