FRENCH MOUNTED ARTILLERY MODEL 1829 SABER, FRANCE MIDDLE 19TH CENTURY.
Sabre troupe de canonier monte, modèle 1829.
Origin: France, middle 19th century.
Blade: steel curved single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. Illegible stamps on ricasso.
Closed brass hilt with single knuckle bow, short arm of the yelman bent towards the blade, with ball finial, wooden grip covered with brown leather (trace of the twisted brass wire). Stamps:
- number 197;
- number 40 in rectangle;
- B in shield under the star (for Louis Constantin Balaran, director from January 24th 1834);
- L (probably) in the circle.
Scabbard missing.
Dimensions: total length – 94,5 cm; blade’s length – 80,7 cm; width – 32 mm; thickness – 9 mm.
