A FRENCH N.C.O.’S SWORD OF THE PARIS MUNICIPAL GUARD, 3RD REPUBLIC.
Epée de sous-officier de la Garde Municipale de Paris, 3ème république.
Origin: France, 3rd Republic period.
Created in 1802, the Municipal Guard of Paris was dissolved after the coup d'état of Malet. It was reactivated in August 16th, 1830 by the Monarchy of July for the guard service and police of the capital.
Blade: steel straight half-hollow-diamond (three-edged T-shaped ) cross-section blade. No marks nor inscriptions visible.
Closed brass hilt casted in one piece with a single knuckle-bow from yelman to the pommel, two shaped cross-guard’s shield, front one bigger, with coat of arms of Paris. Grip decorated with deciduous branches. The smaller shield with stamped number: 2657 on blade’s side.
Scabbard absent.
Total length – 96,8 cm, blade’s length – 83,4 cm, blade’s width – 2,3 cm.
