FRENCH SHORT SWORD M1872 FOR ALL OFFICERS. FRANCE, LATE 19TH CENTURY.

Origin: France, after 1872.
Probably older, straight single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. On ricasso engraves “S.K.” in renaissance style cartouche, same on other side, but with geometrical décor instead of ciphers; above panoply and floral motifs.
Closed brass hilt, guard with single branch connecting the yelman and pommel decorated with an Imperial Eagle on front and an empty shield on back. Cast brass grip with plates of mother-of-pearl attached with triple brass wire. Yelman with two shells (one missing, only small part remains), second moveable (spring button jammed).
Scabbard missing.
Dimensions: total length – 96 cm; blade’s length – 83,6 cm; width – 21 mm; thickness – 6,5 mm.
