A LARGE RUSSIAN ICON OF SELECTED SAINTS, MSTERA, CIRCA 1890. At top center within an ogee arched reserve, Christ delivers a blessing to a gathering of 13 saints below, each identified with a corresponding inscription. The overall style is very reminiscent of icons painted in the workshop of Nikolai Sergeevich Emelianov which drew on icons of an earlier period. Together they include the Guardian Angel, the Holy Martyr Agatha, the Holy Venerable Martyr Evdokia, the Holy Martyr Justina, the Holy Martyr Syprian, the Holy Hero Martyr Zenobius, the Holy Great Martyr Barbara, the Venerable Maria of Egypt, the Holy Martyr Triphon, the Holy Great Martyr Artemiy, the Holy Basil the Great, the Holy Martyr Dimitrus of Thessalonica, and Onuphrius the Great. 14 inches x 12 inches (36 x 30.25 cm).
