Degersheim, St. Gallen
In late 1960’s, two car experts, Virgil M. Exner and James D. O’Donnell started Stutz Motor Car. A mix of US parts and Italian handwork. Stutz has been producing luxury automobiles since 1968 for the wealthy and the famous customers such as Elvis Presley, Muhammed Ali, Frank Sinatra and many others. About 120 Bearcat convertibles were planned to be built at the Stutz Motor Car Turin Italy but unfortunately only 13 were ever built in total. The first two were sold to the Sultan of Brunei and his brother. This 1988 Stutz Bearcat II was imported by a German gentleman directly from the last "official" Stutz dealer "Sunshine State Convertible Heaven" located at Pompano Beach Florida in 1992. The car only had 1303 miles, and it appears that the car was never titled in the US and sold as a new car to Germany. The German buyer kept the car for many years and mostly used it just as a display piece in his collection. About 12 years ago it was purchased by the current owner who also mostly used the car just for display. The car comes with the invoice from the Stutz dealer, import and shipping documents from 1992, but there are no licensing or registration documents as it was actually never officially registered in Europe. The Bearcat II is powered by a 5.7 liter 220hp V8 engine from General Motors for easy servicing paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It's one of the first production cars that had its body made from "Diamond Fiber", known as carbon fiber nowadays. The car is finished in pearl white with a red leather interior. The instruments, switches and interior screws are plated with 24 karat gold. The car comes with a set of leather luggage matching the Italian leather upholstery. The carpet is made from New Zealand sheep wool. Technical condition: The Bearcat II has been maintained very well, the overall condition of the car and the thread on the still original tires dated with 1987 codes are the proof of the just only 2537 miles the car has driven in its life. It drives very well, the engine runs great, the gearbox changes gears smoothly, brakes are working fine and everything else functions as expected, the radio has not been tested. The engine bay looks dry, is a bit dusty but overall very nice. The car is free from corrosion and there are no visible oil leaks. No signs of accidents. Visual condition: The paint looks very nice and shiny, the chrome looks in very good shape, the interior looks completely original with minimal wear and the wonderful carpets are also in a very good condition. The trunk is in perfect condition and looks like new. A wonderful, exceedingly rare piece of history with ultra-low mileage for a 36 year old car. Many celebrities owned a Stutz - Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Mohammed Ali and others. Location: The Netherlands. Video link: youtu.be/UdKjNdXxP60
