WW1 Period British Shropshire Yeomanry Warrant Officers Tunic, Equipment & Ephemera Grouping, consisting of an unusual private purchase service dress tunic in the 1902 style, with very large lower pockets. Brass regimental tunic buttons to the front, pockets and shoulders. Early type embroidered warrant officers crowned rank badges to the sleeve, single early farriers arm badge to one sleeve and brass shoulder titles Y/SHROPSHIRE. Interior of the tunic is nicely lined and has tailors label of J & R Baird of Oswestry. 1915 dated brown leather Sam Browne belt with cross strap and a set of binoculars in the brown field service case, the lid being marked “J. J. Lockley”. Also accompanied by some photographs which mostly appeared to be taken out in Salonika, an addressed envelope to F.Q.M.S J J Lockley, various rank badges, button cleaners etc. An interesting grouping.
The Shropshire Yeomanry was incorporated into the Welsh Border Brigade on 4th August, 1914. It moved to Egypt in March, 1916, taking part in the invasion of Palestine in 1917, and later the 2nd & 3rd Battles of Gaza, the captures of Beersheba, & Jerusalem. In May, 1918, it transferred to France as part of the 74th (Yeomanry) Division, going into the line near Merville on 14th July,, and was engaged in the Hundred Days Offensive, leading to the 2nd Somme Battle, & that for the Hindenburg Line.
