In handwriting, its owner’s name: Jack Truman ASN 38235960 MED. Note some discoloration and wear from use on this item. The shovel remains as found. The item was recovered from the occupants of a farm located in the marshes of Carentan where Ray Kennedy, Jack Truman, Arne Dahlquist and his comrades had sought refuge in the early morning of June 6 just after landing in their parachute drop. Ray Kennedy died of his wounds on June 8. An illustration can be found on page 24 in the book 75 objects of the Landings in Normandy.
