Three interesting sealed wine bottles, two dated 1710 and 1766 Comprising two 'Octagonal Cylinder' bottles, the straight-sided octagonal bodies with rounded shoulders, the long tapering necks with applied string rims, with 'kick-up' bases', including one of dark olive-green tint applied to the side with a circular seal inscribed 'John/ Peckman/ 1766' beside a tree-like abstract design, 24.9cm high, the other of dark olive-amber tint applied to the side with a circular seal inscribed 'I/ Quayle' within a lined border, 28.8cm high, and a fragmentary half size 'Onion' bottle applied just below the shoulder with a circular seal inscribed 'GDL 1710', 12.5cm high, together with a 'Mallet' bottle of olive-green tint with a long tapering neck applied with a string rim, 21cm high (4) Footnotes: Provenance With Jonathan Horne Antiques (Mallet) Graham Slater Collection Literature David Burton, Antique Sealed Bottles (2015), p.730 (Peckman) and p.1233 (Quayle) The Peckman family has not been positively identified but there is reference to a John Peckman born in 1760 in St Mary Cray in Kent. There are numerous references to a John Quayle living on the Isle of Man between 1557 and 1893, but the individual to which the seal relates remains unclear. The example dated 1710 is unrecorded by Burton (2015) and it has not been possible to determine the identity of the individual to whom the initials relate. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
