A Martin Brothers stoneware Marriage Jug by Robert Wallace Martin, dated 1892 incised to base 4.1892 RW Martin Brothers London & Southall incised and painted with scrolling foliage, with plaque and armorials bearing the dedication 'Paul Langbourne Waterlow and Cassy his wife, June. 1892. 'Nothing in life shall sever The ties that unite us now'' together with 'HOLMES . SEMPER . VIRET' and 'LABOR . OMNIA . VINCIT', glazed in shades of tan and ochre on a buff ground height: 24.0cm Footnotes: PROVENANCE The Cheong Family Collection, Queensland Paul Langbourne Waterlow and Kathleen Holmes, to whom this jug is dedicated, were married in 1892 at Wharfedale, West Riding of Yorkshire. Paul was born on 22 February 1863 at St Pancras, Middlesex, England. He was the youngest son of Sydney Waterlow and Anna Hickson. He was a member of the Tunbridge Wells Town Council. He was appointed Fellow, Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) and Fellow, Royal Horticultural Society (FRHS). He passed away, just short of his 65th birthday, on 11th February 1928 at Tonbridge, Kent. Kathleen was born in 1871 in Hull, Yorkshire. She passed away, aged 81 years, in 1953 at Tonbridge, Kent.
