An early Victorian ormolu mounted rosewood, sycamore and fruitwood marquetry writing table or bureau plat by Druce and Co. Circa 1850, in the Louis XV style The shaped gilt tooled leather inset top (losses to the leather) with a floral and scrolled acanthus inlaid border, above a shaped frieze incorporating two short mahogany lined drawers each inlaid with entwined ribbon tied floral and foliate branches, flanking one central mahogany lined drawer inlaid with a floral and foliate trail centred by two opposing c-scrolls and a shell, on square section cabriole legs, each drawer interior mounted with a die-cast brass plaque which reads: 'DRUCE & CO., UPHOLSTERERS & CABINET MAKERS, BAKER STREET, PORTMAN SQUARE, LONDON, W.', 125cm wide x 71cm deep x 74.5cm high, (49in wide x 27 1/2in deep x 29in high) Footnotes: Druce and Co. were a firm of cabinet makers and upholsterers who flourished during the period 1845-1902. They are documented, in an invoice dated 1845, as operating out of two London premises; one of which was based in Baker Street and the other located on King Street, Portman Square.
