c.1954 Velocette 192cc LE MkII Frame no. 13809 Engine no. 200/15270 Please kindly note that this motorbike will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Dortmund: please contact eva.lengler@bonhams.com for booking. Launched in 1948, as the 'motorcycle for everyman', the Velocette LE addressed the criticisms most often levelled at motorcycles - that they were noisy, dirty and needed special clothing to ride - achieving impressive levels of silence, comfort and practicality. Sadly for the LE, its arrival coincided with the start of the scooter boom; asked to compete against Italian style, Velo's ugly duckling never stood a chance, even after the sidevalve flat-twin's performance had been boosted by a capacity increase from 149 to 192cc for 1951 with the introduction of the MkII. This LE MkII was supplied new in the UK by Turner Bros of Palmers Green, London N13, whose plaque is still attached to it, and subsequently given a German VIN plate following its arrival in that country. The machine is offered with an original service manual, German Fahrzeugbrief (registration document) and a copy of My Velocette Days by Leonard J Moseley. It should be noted that the engine does not turn over. Key not required Footnotes: Please kindly note that VAT at the prevailing german rate (currently 19%) will be added to the buyer's premium which will be invoiced on a VAT exclusive basis. If you are planning to export, please make the department aware. Lot to be sold without reserve.
