PAIRE D'ASSIETTES EN PORCELAINE BLEU BLANC Vers 1745 A PAIR OF BLUE AND WHITE 'BURGHLEY HOUSE' DISHES Ca. 1745 Each painted in tones of inky blue with a view of Burghley House with pheasants in the foreground, all within a foliate scroll border. Each 22.5cm (8 7/8in) diam. (2). Footnotes: 約1745年 青花伯利莊園圖盤一對 Provenance: Property of a Portuguese Gentleman 來源 葡萄牙紳士珍藏 This pair of dishes belongs to a well-known service depicting a European building that is generally accepted as representing Burghley House, Stamford, England, because of the similarities with a grisaille image on a circa 1735 Chinese punch bowl still in situ at Burghley House (no. cer0075), see David Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, p.87, no.74. While the design on the Chinese plates is greatly modified from the supposed print source, some similarities may be seen. Compare examples published in David Howard and John Ayers, China for the West, vol.I, pp.260-2, no.257; and Francois and Nicole Hervouët and Yves Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes a Decor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p.243, no.10.19 For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
