A fine and rare mid 19th century gilt brass triple dialled desk clock compendium with calendar and thermometer Thomas Cole, London, retailed by Hunt and Roskell The case surmounted by a cherub holding a dove at the apex of a triangular upper section, raised over an engraved hexagonal section engraved with alternating panels of geometric engraving and Medieval horsemen, raised on three pairs of cabriole legs united by a tri-form stretcher centred by a facetted finial. (The centre section stamped with the secret signature Thos Cole, visible on disassembly). The clock dial with Roman chapter ring and fleur de lis blued steel hands framed by a minute band and with floral scroll engraved centre, set in a mask engraved with intertwined strapwork and foliage, the triangular frame further engraved with running fruit and foliage. The left hand dial with manual perpetual calendar, the date chart set over a rotating day dial (adjusted from the rear), and signed for the retailers HUNT & ROSKELL, LONDON; the right hand dial inset with a mercury thermometer reading against scales in Fahrenheit (with English temperature notes) and Reamur (with French temperature notes). The eight day movement wound by pulling the hinged dial forwards to reveal a spring barrel set on a pair of L-shaped brackets and driving a pocket watch-type movement via a contrate wheel in place of the fusee great wheel, with cut and compensated bimetallic balance and jewelled English lever escapement.
