A rare late 18th century Mahogany table clock with alarm and original clockmakers trade label in the case Higgs and Evans, London the bell-topped case with four cone finials and a central handle over circular and shaped glazed side panels, resting on a moulded base with brass ogee feet. Internally, the base of the clock is set with the original printed clockmakers trade label DIAGO EVANS, RELOXERO No. 7 Sweetings Alley al lado de la Bolsa Real de Londres ...AZE toda clase de Reloxes para Faldiquera, Sala......... The 6.5inch arched brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring framed by six brass spandrels and a strike/silent dial, centred by an alarm-setting disc and chamfered date aperture, the recessed silvered name plaque signed Higgs y DIEGO EVANS, LONDRES. The twin gut fusee movement with knife-edge verge escapement and rack strike on the bell. The backplate with single line border framing foliate scrolls and a tapering cross-hatched arrowhead. Ticking, striking, and with operational alarm set by turning the desired time on the small setting dial to read against the rear tip of the hour hand. Together with two door keys. 52cms high (20.5 inches) Footnotes: James Evans is recorded working in Sweetings Alley from 1773 - 1805. In 1775 he went into partnership with Robert and Peter Higgs as Diego Evans producing clocks for the Spanish market. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
