A good mid 18th century brass mounted quarter repeating ebonised table clock Thomas Hughes, London the inverted bell top with a knopped handle and moulded brass cornice, set over circular and shaped side glasses on a brass banded plinth base. The 7 inch break-arch brass dial signed between a pair of subsidiaries for strike/silent and rise-and-fall regulation with cast brass spandrels and silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the matted centre with mock pendulum and date apertures, and blued steel hands. The double fusee movement with verge escapement and a fully engraved backplate signed within a strapwork cartouche framed by foliate scrolls and a basket of fruit, the retaining brackets and pendulum holdfast with wheatear engraving. 53 cms (21 ins) high Footnotes: Thomas Hughes began his apprenticeship in 1734 under his father, also named Thomas (d. 1753). His career spanned 43 years, from 1742 to 1785, during which he operated workshops in the New Broad Street Buildings in London. Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
