A Gone with the Wind Pair of Stretchers Used in Bazaar and Hospital Scenes Two canvas, rope, and painted pine stretchers. One with legs. Selznick International Pictures, 1939. Of the many instances of cinematic genius in Gone with the Wind, that in which Scarlett slowly makes her way to the makeshift hospital as the camera pans out and reveals hundreds of dead and dying soldiers, is surely one of the most memorable; indeed, director James Cameron was so inspired that a similar scene was filmed for his blockbuster, Titanic (1997). In the GWTW scene, soldiers are depicted lying on stretchers and on the ground (dummies were used for this scene and can be recognized if you search diligently), as Scarlett (played by Vivien Leigh) finds Dr. Meade (played by Harry Davenport) to ask for help in the delivery of Melanie's baby. The frustrated and elderly doctor is at his wit's end and scolds Scarlett for even thinking of taking him away from the dying men. Throughout the film, these stretchers are seen in various scenes of the war-torn South. Accompanied by a vintage photo and a reproduction photo of scenes with the stretchers, 8 x 10 in. Buyers' Premium and Charges

Oversized Lots
Please note that all lots marked with a W in the catalog are oversized and subject to additional storage and shipping methods. All additional lots purchased with W lots are considered group lots and will be subject to the same terms as W lots.
