An illuminated Qur'an with extensive commentaries Provincial Ottoman, late 19th Century Arabic manuscript on paper, 285 leaves, 15 lines to the page written in a cursive script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in black and red ink, red roundels between verses, margins ruled in blue and red, catchwords and extensive commentaries in wide margins, one double page of illumination in colours and gold, brown morocco with stamped central medallions and cornerpieces, with flap, 310 x 205 mm.; and Sharh-e kafiyah (commentary on the Kafiyah), on Arabic grammar, by 'Abd al-Rahman Jami, the original text composed in AH 897/AD 1491-92, Provincial Ottoman, probably Egypt or Syria, 18th Century, Arabic manuscript on paper, 177 leaves, 21 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink with significant words and phrases underlined in red, inner margins ruled in red, catchwords, marginal commentaries throughout, contemporary burgundy morocco, with flap 180 x 115 mm.(2) Footnotes: Provenance Bonhams, Islamic and Indian Art, 12th October 2005, lot 50. Private UK collection, 2005-present. In the second manuscript, on grammar, what appears to be a colophon gives the date 11 Ramadan 897/7th July 1492), which is the date of the composition by Jami, and goes on to say that our manuscript was copied straight from Jami's text. There are numerous marginal commentaries including the names Mulla Hindi, 'Ismat, 'Abd al-Ghafur, Sa'dullah and Halabi, who must have been scholars of grammar. There are other notes in Ottoman Turkish, and a seal impression with the name Muhammad Amin. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
