An enamelled brass Jaipur School of Art ewer India, late 19th Century the rounded body with flattened sides on a flaring foot, each side with a central boss set with glass in the form of a rosette, the tall cylindrical neck with central ring and spout to upper half, surmounted by a foliate openwork domed hinged lid with perching peacock, the curving handle with makara heads and terminating in a tulip, profusely engraved and decorated in red, black and ochre enamel with foliate sprays and vine leaves, the base inscribed 'School of Art/ Jeypore' 34 cm. high Footnotes: An enamelled brass tray with similar decoration attributed to the Jaipur School of Art is in the Horniman Museum, London (museum no. nn14344). The form of the present lot is also comparable to a pair of brass coffee pots in the same collection (museum nos. nn14347 & nn14349). Two further brass coffee pots of similar form are illustrated in T. H. Hendley & W. Griggs, Handbook to the Jeypore Museum, Calcutta, 1895, p. 41, nos. 2419 & 1033.
