FIRST EDITION, AUTHOR'S COPY, with a note in her hand to the front flyleaf: 'Copy for work at Navarre Beach July 18, 2001.' Rice pulled a first edition of her novel off the shelf to take on vacation to Florida's beautiful Navarre Beach which lies about halfway between Pensacola Beach and Destin. Rice probably meant to read and take notes in this volume in preparation for writing another installment in the Vampire Chronicles, but abandoned the hardcover for a paperback, as was often her practice.
