A CASED AND NICKEL-PLATED MANHATTAN POCKET MODEL SERIES I REVOLVER, c. 1858-60. Serial number 158, .31 caliber octagonal barrel marked on the top 'MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS/MANUFG. CO. NEW YORK'; unadorned five-shot cylinder with matching serial number and trapezoidal grooves; silvered foliate scroll engraved frame marked 'B' on the inside surface, smooth walnut grip, wedge serial number matches the frame and barrel; oak case opening to a compartmented and green velvet lined interior with a leather covered brass powder flask, a Colt's Patent ball/bullet mold, nipple wrench and a tine of Remington caps. Barrel lg. 4, overall lg. 8 ¾ in. Condition: Barrel bluing is worn and transitioning to gray/brown, cylinder is toned gray/brown, frame retains most of the silvering, grip is very good, action functions properly; case is very good, lining has some soiling and spotting. Footnotes: Note Nutter suggests that Manhattan Pocket revolvers marked 'B' on the inside of the grip frame may have been produced by Thomas Bacon. Blanchard, in his notes associated with this revolver suggests that it may be a developmental model due to the lack of decoration on the cylinder.
