BRITISH ARMY IN IRELAND IN THE 18TH CENTURY. [MOLESWORTH, RICHARD, VISCOUNT. 1680-1758.] Manuscript book of general orders of the Regiments of Foot at Dublin Castle, 1750-1755, containing fair copies of orders issued by Viscount Lord Molesworth, Lt. General and later Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Irish Army, folio (320 x 208 mm), 92 pp recto and verso, in various hands, bound in contemporary wrappers, loosely inserted into 20th century calf antique portfolio, titled on front wrapper in ink 'His Majesties Book.' Wear, chipping and soiling to wrappers, pages curled and chipped at corners, slight dampstaining, ink faded to some leaves. This notebook has been filled with hand-transcriptions of general orders and memoranda issued from approximately November 1750 to March 1755, including allocation of officers and men, announcements of appointments of officers to significant positions, instructions for firing and marksmanship drills, regulations for officers taking leave, etc. Richard Molesworth, 3rd Viscount Molesworth, was an Anglo-Irish nobleman who had a distinguished military career, serving as Aide-de-Camp to the Duke of Marlborough during the War of the Spanish Succession, and eventually earning the rank of Field Marshal. He was made Commander-in-Chief in Ireland in September, 1751, a position he held until near the end of his life.
