Callahan, for Graduation - 8th grade, June 13, 1973 ... in memory of Grandfather Joseph A. Callahan).' RARE ALBUM OF CANDID IMAGES FROM BYRD'S SECOND ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION. Includes time aboard ship, including an unknown candid photograph of Byrd himself, marine life, dogsled teams both aboard ship and then ferrying supplies across the ice after disembarking. The Bear of Oakland, 62 years old at the time of the Expedition, was a 200 foot barkentine, and her design and construction made her indispensable to the expedition for breaking through the ice.
