Folding map (Barton's 'Sanitary Map of the City of New Orleans'), 7 folding charts, 4 engraved plates of sewer parts. Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards with gilt lettering to spine. Chipped and worn, foxing, large tear to folding map. RARE NEW ORLEANS IMPRINT ON YELLOW FEVER EPIDEMIC OF 1853. Following the yellow fever outbreak in New Orleans, this report was issued in 1854, including first-hand accounts from local physicians, statistics identifying the spread, and identifying poor public hygiene as the cause for the rapid spread of the disease and recommending measures to mitigate future outbreaks. According to rarebookhub, no copy at auction for 60 years.
