This photo-mosaic lunar panorama from Apollo 17 was created from at least nine original slit-scan images taken during that now famous December 1972 lunar mission, which was the last manned landing on the surface of the moon. The slit-scan cameras, which creates intentional distortions in static photography—were used on the Apollo 17 was designed by Walter Levinson of the Itek Corporation. This panorama image depicts the lunar horizon at the Taurus-Littrow landing site. Captured in the image are the Apollo 17 lunar module, LM-12 Challenger, the Earth uplink transceiver deployed for communications, the shadow of the astronaut taking the photo, a part of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package or ALSEP, and one of the Apollo 17 astronauts in the distance.
