Ciaran Clear (Irish, 1920-2000) Home Shore signed 'Ciaran Clear' (lower left); further signed and inscribed ''Home Shore'/By:- Ciaran Clear,/The Studio,/Rush, Co. DUBLIN' (on the backboard) oil on board 29 x 40 cm. (11 1/2 x 15 3/4 in.) Footnotes: Provenance Private Collection, Ireland, since 2000 Ciaran Clear moved with his family to the small town of Rush in North County Dublin, where he spent his entire life. He was a man of many talents, playing drums in his own swing band and designing sets for the local dramatic society. After a long illness, he became a full-time painter in the 1950s. Clear is most admired for his dramatic moonlit seascapes of his hometown of Rush and also Connemara. He preferred group exhibitions and, in 1963, he was one of the founding members of the Fingal Artists Group, with Maurice MacGonigal being another member. They held exhibitions throughout Ireland in a bid to make art more accessible to wider audiences. Clear's work was also part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.
