(19 3/4 x 13 3/4 in.) Painted in 2016 Footnotes: Provenance With Kerlin Gallery, Dublin, where acquired by the present owner Private Collection, Ireland Brian Maguire's reputation as an artist emerges from his interest in social and political events and his deep personal engagement with people who are often marginalised or displaced as a result of such events. His paintings are a gesture of solidarity with those whose voices are unheard and he has previously undertaken projects in such diverse locations as prisons, psychiatric institutions, and women's shelters. In response to the Syrian refugee crisis Maguire visited Aleppo in 2017 in order to document the crisis first-hand and to give an insight into the stark and brutal reality of the consequences of war and international politics in the 21st century and its effects on the lives of ordinary people.
